In what has to be the telecommunication industry equivalent of stealing your rival’s boyfriend, Sprint has gone and hijacked the talents of actor Paul Marcarelli, best known for starring in Verizon’s long-running “Can you hear me now?” campaign.
Marcarelli, known by anyone who watched television in the aughts as the face of one of the most recognizable ad campaigns in recent memory, is seen sporting a yellow shirt in this new Sprint commercial, making his new allegiance clear. While he may not be as recognizable without uttering his signature phrase, the glasses and haircut should surely give déjà vu to the millions who have seen that face so many times before.
We think it’s a great concept, as it reinforces the notion that Sprint has finally caught up to their longtime adversary, Verizon. Do you think this was a good move on Sprint’s part, or will the message be lost on younger customers who may not remember the heyday of Verizon’s campaign?
Check out the spot and let us know what you think.
